MAINDAL
Maindal is adored as goddess of fertility and the guardian angel of pregnant and lying-in-woman as well as children. Women offer replica of cradle and child as well as other objects as silk sarees, ornaments and flowers to this spirit during the annual festivals. The spirit is also known as mayinda mani and halavu makkala taayi. A beautiful wooden idol of maindal with a child in hand can be observed in the temple at amrteshwari. This spirit like jumadi, panjurli, and koooti chennya. Other important centers of manidal worship are kundapura, basrur, koodi, surathkal and yenagudde.
