KORAGA TANIYA
Koraga Taniya, also know as niicadaiva is worshipped by the members belonging to scheduled communities. A boy of lower caste fights against social discrimination and caste distinction and meets with tragic death and becomes a spirit. Since his parents died in early age Korage Taniya was brought up and looked after by a rich lady. But he was kept at a distance because of his low birth. When he wanted some one’s help to keep a bundle of leaves on his head the foster mother refused to touch him. When he asked for food, it was served in the backyard.The young boy was enraged at this sort of discrimination and takes out a handful of rice and comes inside the shrine of Bermeru. As a result of this he was subjected to wrath of Bermeru and born as a lower spirits. Another version of then legend says that he was killed by the members of upper class and become a spirit after death. The spirit is propitiated with alcohol and other meat offerings. The impersonator does not wear headgear but wears coconut leaf garment. He acts like a buffoon and tries to run away from the arena. There is no oracle since is consider as dumb.
