MALERAYA OR VARAHI
Maleraya or varahi is a hunting spirits of the mountains. It hunts animal and saves crops from the onslaught of wild animals. The shrine of maleraya at Vitla Padnur and Kaup near Mangalore known . One can witness hunting scene in the ritual dance of the impersonator is decorated with a special round head-gear with bow and arrow in his hand.
