  DARBE KRISHNANANDA CHOWTA

Sri Darbe Krishnanda Chowta popularly known as D.K. Chowta was the eldest son of Sri. Darbe Narayana Chowta and Kudrepadi Guthu Smt. Mohini Chowta.  He was born at Manjeshwar near Kasaragodu.  After completing his Post Graduation in Economics from Bombay University, he went abroad and worked for 25 years in different countries like Ghana, Nigeria and London (England) in various positions.But this did not fullfill his ambitions.

       He came back, settled down in Bangalore and involved himself in Industries, Exports, Country Clubs and various businesses, which resulted in the establishment of reputed companies such as M/S Power Gear Ltd., M/S P.C. Exports and Sun Valley Club, and thereby creating employment opportunities for Kannadigas.M/S P.C. Exports has been awarded by Exports Promotion Council continuously five times.

        Along with his business success, he was involved in all types of social services and did a great service to our community. Under his Presidentship, the Bunts Sangha Bangalore held “World Bunts Convention” in 1995.  He has been appreciated for bringing whole bunts on to a common platform by former Prime Minister Deve Gowda.  As the President of Bunts Sangha Bangalore, he started scholarship to poor Bunts, women welfare programmes and Medical Camps to help the deprived people.

        Sri. D.K. Chowta’s achievements are not limited to only these activities, he has also taken lot of interest in cultural activities such as music, drama, art, paintings, sculptures, literatures etc. He also donated to Charitable Institutions, Sanghas etc.  He was the President for Cultural programmes such as Nadha Nrithya, Vishwa Kala etc.For Chitrakala Parishath and Nrithya Kala Parishath, he was an active member being involved in various activities.

      Sri D.K. Chowta’s literature on ‘Tulu Katha Sankalana’ has been appreciated as one of the best literature in a decade on Tulu language.  “Kariyavajjerena Kathekkulu” and ‘Plilipathigadasu’ a drama has been awarded by Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy.Sri. D.K. Chowta has two children, the eldest son Sri. Sandeep chowta is a well-known music director in bollywood, and  daughter Prajna Chowta.

        We are grateful to such a multi-faceted and eminent personality like D.K. Chowta for his contributions to our community and society and wish him all the best for his future endeavors.

The renowned Poet Kavi Kayyar Kinhanna Rai, son of Shri. Duggappa Rai and Smt. Deyakka Rai was born on June 8, 1915.He is married to Smt.Unhakke and has eight children-six sons and two daughters. He is qualified as Vidwan in Kannada and Sanskrit and has obtained M.A.

Degree.Even though he is a Poet, he has several other literary works to his credit.He has written 13 poetry books of which Shrimukha, Ikya Gana, Punarnava, Koraga, Chethana, Panchami, Shathamanada Gana, Gandhavathi, Makkala Padya Manjari, Ennape Tuluvappe are the most popular.He has written 8 Prose works-Biographies on Rathnarashi, Parashurama, Mr.A.B. Shetty, Karnad Sadashiva Rao, Kannada Shakthi Narayana Kille and stories -Lakshmishana Kathegalu and Anna Devaru Mathu Ithara Kathegalu.He has authored eight books on children literature (Navodaya Vachana Male), four volumes on Grammar (Vyakarana Mathu Prabandha) and a drama-Viragini (Story based on Freedom struggle).Also Literatary Criticism (6 Publication) Rashtra Kavi Govinda Pai, Malayalam Sahityacharithram, Sahitya Drishti, Samskrithiya Hegguruthugalu are familior. An Auto-Biography-Dudithave Nanna Devaru and has published innumerable articles in different jouranals.

Awards:

National Award in 1969 for Teaching .

Elected President of 66th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in 1997.

Karnataka State Award for his ‘Punarvana ‘-as the best Biography.

Honorary Fellowship Coferred by the Academy of General Education, Manipal 1971

Rajyostava Prashasti awarded by Hon. Chief Minister of Karnataka in 1985.

He was also President/Secretary of more than twenty literary, Educational, Social and Political Commities and has won more than 15 distinguished awards for his literary achievements. Also he has been honoured more than 60 times appreciating his work, on Literature, Poetry, Prose, Drama, Freedom fighter is fighting restlessly for indusion of Kasargod in Karnataka.Lalitha Kala Sadana of Kasargod honoured him by publishing a 700 page book in his honour entitled “GADINADINA KIDI”.

We salute this literary giant, poet par excellence and noble freedom fighter and hope he is awarded the ‘JnanaPeeta’ award.

Smt. Usha.P.Rai is the eldest daughter of Sri. K. Honnayya Shetty,a prominent journalist who was the editor of famous weekly ‘Navayuga’ and Smt. Kedambadi .Padmavathi Shetty,. She was born on 23 May 1945. She has inherited her father’s literary talent and showed keen interest in pen and paper since her childhood. After her marriage to Sri. B. A. Prabhakar Rai.

a writer in Kannada and Tulu languages, in 1967, she completed her Master’s in Sociology.In 1974, she joined Vijaya Bank, as an officer, worked for 25 years and took voluntary retirement in 1999. Her first novel was serialized in Prajamatha weekly in 1974, which launched her literary career. While managing the house, children and bank job, she wrote seven novels, short stories, collection of poems, essays, editing some books and magazines. She was on the editorial board of Aisiri-World Bunts’ Convention magazine and Editor of Bolli- Tulukoota magazine. Presently she is the Editor of ‘Sneha Chinthana’ quarterly magazine of Bunts’ Sangha, Bangalore and Lekaki- quarterly magazine published by Karnataka Lekakiyara sangha, Bangalore.

Collection of books published by her are-Anubanda (Serialized in Prajamatha), Paribramana (serialized in Prajamatha), Uttarana, Supthaswara, Nishane,Jagruthi, Niyathi,(Serialised in Sudha), Kanasugalu Nanasugalu(Collection of Poems), Badukemba Chadurangadatada dalagalu (Short Stories), Antharya(essays) Bhava hani, Musukida Mabbinali (Short Stories), Lakshadweepake Lagge Ittaga, Pratispandana(Collection of
articles),Navayugada Pravartaka.Her writings are published in Kannada,Tulu and English periodicals such as Femina. Besides this, her talks and short
stories are broadcasted in All India Radio-Bangalore.She has taken part in Kavigoshti, Seminars and her discussions in Sthriloka, on Women’s issue and Parichaya Programme in Udaya T.V. received good appreciation.She is the ‘President of Karnataka Lekakiyara Sangha’, a State level Organization.Beside her literary pursuit, she is interested in social service and is helping through
Mahila Dakshata Samithi and Vanitha Sahayavani. She is also a special police officer designate to Shanthinagar area, thereby helping distress, harassed/ abused Women.She is honored by many organizations. She was honoured as President of Mahila Sahithya Sammelana organized by Women’s wing of Kannada Sangarsha samiti in memory of Dr.Anupama Niranjana in the year 2000.We felicitate this eminent literary novelist who is an inspiration to
women and is a fighter for social justice.We wish her all success in her artistic career. 

  K.SRINIVASA ALVA (I.P.S.) Deputy Inspector General Of Police (Retd.)      TOP

Badilaguthu, K. Srinivasa Alva s/o K. Rama Alva, born on 6th July, 1932 and brought up in Kandavar Village of Mangalore Taluk , had his education in Mangalore and got his B.Com. Degree from Madras University and had his Law education from Bombay University.

During his student career he had keen interest in Sports, Social work and N.C.C. . He represented Bombay University in The Inter University Athletic
meet in 1960 and got 1st place in Javelin throw.Captain of College in Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball and Athletic teams. As N.C.C. cadet under officer , participated in Republic Day Parade and got the All India best athletic cadet prize from the Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1956. Worked in B.E.S.T. Bombay as an internal auditor for three years before joining the police Department in Karnataka State in 1960. 
Worked in Raichur, Chithradurga, Hubli, Bangalore, North Canara, Coorg, Gulbarga, Davanagere and Bidar in different capacity as Asst. Commissioner, Dy. Commissioner, Supdt. and D.I.G. of Police. Conferred I.P.S. in 1968 and Retired in 1990. Built a temple and a school in Kandavar Village. Became the President of Bangalore Bunts Sangha and took keen interest in development
activities like construction of the auditorium, formation of Ladies wing, youth wing, bringing out Sangha Magazine, starting a school and a women hostel etc. Responsible for the advancement of Bunts Sangha activities in Bangalore, Member of federation of Bunts Sanghas and the Bunt Foundation. Vice
President of Globe Eye Foundation, a registered Charitable Trust in Bangalore.
Settled in Bangalore after retirement at Ganganagar with wife Sarvani and three sons Ram Rathan, Ram Kishan and Ram Charith. Vice President of B.J.P. City unit for two terms and a member of B.J.P. State executive committee. Taking keen interest in social work. We express our regards and gratitude to this icon who is a true follower of LAW, believing in justice for one and all and had handled many social services and charitable responsibilities simultaneously.
